Pop star George Michael said tonight that a new documentary charting the highs and lows of his turbulent career was a “Christmas present” to his fans.

The former Wham! singer said the film was not a part of a promotional campaign but was a chance to offer fans an explanation as to why his career has been such a “stop, start process”.
