The screening was in aid of the charity, Facing The World, which was founded by Natasha McElhone's (George's co-star) husband, Martin Kelly. Mr Kelly is one of the country's leading plastic surgeons and the charity was set up to help children with facial deformities in the world's poorest countries.

Guests paid £250 a head to attend the invitation-only event, with all proceeds going to the charity.

The Hours

at the premiere of The Hours  From the Daily Variety (Feb. 13)
By Archie Thomas

LONDON --- Unlike the recent big-bash blowouts in the West End for "Chicago" and "Catch Me if You Can," Disney opted for an intimately elegant soiree debut for "The Hours" Monday night.

Despite the low-key feel, pic's stars Nicole Kidman, Ed Harris, Miranda Richardson, helmer Steven Daldry and scribe David Hare were on hand at the Chelsea cinema to introduce the literary drama inspired by Virginia Woolf's "Mrs. Dalloway" the night before Oscar noms came out Stateside. Notable guests at the after-party at the Bluebird restaurant included Harvey Weinstein, Gillian Anderson, Brenda Blethyn, Elton John, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Virgin supremo Richard Branson, Brit artist Sam Taylor-Wood and fashion designer Nicole Farhi.

At the 30th Evening Standard British Film Awards
      by Neil Norman, Evening Standard

Sitting between the scrumptious Heidi Klum and the elegant Gillian Anderson on Sunday night (well, there has to be some perk for organising the Evening Standard Film Awards), I was intrigued to learn that former X-Filer Anderson favours scripts by British screenwriters over their American counterparts. They have much more interesting ideas, she told me. "British writers don't follow a formula like American ones. They're always coming from a different place." Among the scripts she is considering is Who Goes There? written by actor Jeff Rawle, to be directed by Benjamin Ross. As Ross made the weird and rather wonderful Young Poisoner's Handbook and Rawle was a regular in Drop The Dead Donkey, I imagine the film coming from a very different place indeed.

Gillian at ES Film Awards ES Film Awards

Gillian attended the Evening Standard British Film Awards on Sunday. We have archived some photos from the event, courtesy of the Gillian Anderson Photo Archive. More photos can be viewed at photo agencies such as TopFoto.

For those who live in the UK, the awards will be televised tomorrow (Wednesday) on Carlton Television at 11:30 pm.

  Congratulations, Gillian!

The winners are announced today in the annual Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Awards, which sees vastly different results from those determined by industry judges in longer established awards events like the Evening Standard Awards and, also announced today, the Critics' Circle. Unlike those annual prize-giving events, the Whatsonstage.com Awards are the only London theatre awards in which the paying public decides who and what wins in all 20 nomination categories. And the public has spoken loudly, with more than 16,000 theatregoers voting in the 2003 Whatsonstage.com Awards - twice the number who took part in 2002.

Gillian Anderson won the Best Actress award for her West End debut in What the Night Is For. Anderson's avid fans propelled her into the top spot ahead of stiff competition from fellow screen stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Samantha Bond not to mention Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, nominated as a pair.

Ananova.com reports: Terri Paddock, director of Whatsonstage.com, said: "The people who actually pay to see all of London's wonderful stage productions have very strong opinions, and we hope that our awards give them a unique opportunity to voice those opinions."
