FOX invites X-Philes to gala event
Posted at 2:58 PM (PDT) on Friday, July 18, 2008

Official Release from 20th Century Fox:

THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE CELEBRATES FANS AT FILM’S PREMIERE, JULY 23, AT GRAUMAN’S CHINESE THEATRE

LOS ANGELES…They’ve long wanted to believe…and now the truth – and a new The X-Files movie – is finally out there for the legions of fans eagerly awaiting the debut of the next feature film based on the legendary television series. To honor these “X-Philes” (as the enthusiasts are known), Twentieth Century Fox is hosting a Fan Celebration at the world premiere screening of THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE on July 23 at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

The studio is inviting X-Philes to gather that day in specially-built seating in front of the Hollywood landmark, where they can observe the red-carpet arrivals – and participate in a special conference with the film’s stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, plus writer-producer-director Chris Carter and writer-producer Frank Spotnitz. Situated on a stage in front of the theater, the four filmmakers will field questions from the fans, prior to fulfilling their more traditional duties with the press. (Seating will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Special credentials will be distributed at 4:00 p.m. to the first 500 fans that arrive that day. The festivities will begin at 6:00 p.m.).

X-Philes around the globe will experience the gala event live, via a special internet site from which they can direct questions in real-time to the film’s cast and filmmakers. This worldwide community of fans will also meet over 100 of the series’ co-stars, guest stars, and behind-the-scenes personnel, who have already committed to attending the Celebration.

X-Files Icons at Smithsonian
Posted at 3:18 PM (PDT) on Wednesday, July 16, 2008

USA Weekend
The Who's News Blog
By Lorrie Lynch

'X Files' icons go to Smithsonian American history museum

Xfiles It’s official: the egg that haunted Sigourney Weaver in Alien and the ruby-red slippers that guided Judy Garland home have a new neighbor. Intern Lisa Gartner just got back from the National Museum of American History, where she saw Chris Carter, creator/director/producer/writer of The X-Files, donate a bunch of sci-fi goodies from the show to the museum’s entertainment collection. We’re talking the original television pilot script, Scully’s famous religion-versus-science cross necklace, and the FBI badges of America’s favorite fictional agents.

“Science-fiction has been a vital narrative strand in nearly every aspect of American popular culture,” said Jim Gardner, the museum’s associate director. “The X-Files series is a particularly important example of that tradition, with its quirky blend of the everyday and the paranormal.”

The Most-Likely-To-Haunt-Your-Dreams Object Award goes to the little alien maquette that was used to design the color and texture of the aliens in the first X-Files movie, Fight the Future. Other items include photographs and a poster from the I Want to Believe movie, autographed by Carter, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

“(The show) is representative of two very exploitable American qualities – fear and paranoia,” Carter joked. “I’m kidding, of course. Even though it was a dark show, even though it was a scary show, it was a show that represented a true American quality, which is the quality of hope.”

The National Museum of American History “has led the way in exploring and documenting America’s pop culture,” Gardner says, so it makes perfect sense to me that the X-Files paraphernalia belongs there. I mean, who was alive in the '90s that didn’t have an intense debate over whether or not Mulder and Scully should resolve their sexual tension? Keep on musing when the second X-Files film, I Want To Believe, opens in theaters on July 25, and the National Museum of American History re-opens this fall.

Sneak Peak at New TXF Comic Book
Posted at 5:33 AM (PDT) on Wednesday, July 9, 2008

As we wait for the new movie to open, EW.com presents an exclusive preview of "The X-Files #0," Frank Spotnitz's illustrated take on the supernatural show.

By Nisha Gopalan
Entertainment Weekly

The truth? It'll be out there in theaters when The X-Files: I Want to Believe opens July 25. But thanks to Frank Spotnitz, the franchise's coproducer and cowriter, it'll also be available in comic-book form two days earlier, when DC's The X-Files #0 hits stores. While the film takes place after the TV series' end, Spotnitz's title (illustrated by Iron Man: Hypervelocity's Brian Denham) is fully ensconced in buzzy season 5, with Special Agent Dana Scully's cancer in attack mode, and her FBI partner, Fox Mulder, initially on the lam, probing Scully's illness as well as surreptitious alien types.

Issue #0 is a story Spotnitz always wanted to tell, but never had a chance to. And it will, in fact, springboard into a few original comics miniseries set throughout seasons 2 and 5 of the show. Also, these tales will feature a familiar evil force. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. To jump-start the X-Files' long-awaited resurrection, DC and Spotnitz have given EW.com this exclusive first look at pages from The X-Files #0.

Click here for a preview of the beautifully illustrated panels!

Upcoming Auctions: Q&A with Gillian
Posted at 11:24 AM (PDT) on Tuesday, July 8, 2008

Tell us a little about the charities you have chosen. Do you have personal connections to them or was it something else that drew you to them?

Three of these charities have been close to my heart for some years now and one is a new venture in just trying to help someone get a film made about a special group of people that I feel deserve attention and recognition.

What is the strangest thing you have ever auctioned for charity?

Strangest thing I've ever auctioned is an old smelly pair of well worn flip flops.

Is there one item (or two) in this auction that is special to you; one you had a hard time parting with?

There's an FBI file that I'm a bit hesitant to auction cause it may be one of only two in existence - but I'm doing it anyway!

There are many behind the scenes photos. If you look at them, can you remember any of those specific moments?

Almost all the behind the scene photographs bring back extremely vivid memories, yeah, and are actually quite intimate - not just the ones with Rob Bowman giving me a bear hug - but they are quite special compared to all the posed photos out there.

And finally, your fans loved your very short participation in the American Idol Gives Back event last year. How did you get involved in that?

The American Idol thing I recorded in London and actually sang not only that whole damn song over and over again in entirety only for 2 seconds of use! BUT did a version where I pretended to audition for American idol acapella and do a really bad job. Which of course they never used but I'm sure it will pop up at some point to embarrass me.

Gillian's 'Gellhorn' Project
Posted at 7:43 AM (PDT) on Tuesday, July 1, 2008

March 22, 2005 - Gillian has the rights to Gellhorn: A Twentieth-Century Life by Caroline Moorehead and plans to make a feature film (not a biopic) focusing on the marriage between Ernest Hemingway and Martha Gellhorn. Sharman Macdonald will write the screenplay and Gillian will play the role of Martha Gellhorn.

April 23, 2007 - And one more thing, read the first draft of the Gellhorn script and it's reeaally good. Phew! You never know if you're on the right track until you are or you aren't and I think we are. I got goose bumps. Can't wait to share that story on the big screen with everyone. Many more hurdles to cross before then though. Thanks for everyone's continuing interest and support for that project.

June 30, 2008 - Variety published more news on this project: "Martha Gellhorn was one of the most respected journalists of this century, and I thought Caroline's biography effectively encompassed her rich and complex life," Anderson said. Read more.

Note: As stated in the March 22, 2005 blurb, the film is not a biopic.
