Theatremonkey Opinion
If Gillian Anderson had chosen this, rather than
"What The Night Is For" as her London debut, the monkey rather suspects she
would not only have been hailed a great actress, but also the play would quite
likely still be running.
Gilman has written something special - a
character led piece that contrasts career and life aspirations without
preaching. Few actors and a minimal set are enough to create an atmosphere in
which a simple story becomes an exploration of much deeper
issues.
Anderson's night it might be (deservedly so), but this is not to
detract in any way from anyone else involved in this triumph for the Royal
Court.
