"Mrs Zant and the Ghost" Audiobook
Posted at 10:30 AM (PST) on Tuesday, December 22, 2015

By Joe Mellor
The London Economic: 21 December 2015

New research has revealed more than half of Brits say their festive excitement peaks on the journey home, with almost one in five expecting to hit the road on December 23rd to make it home for Christmas Eve.

The study, commissioned by Audible, found that audiobooks are proving particularly popular, with the Harry Potter series narrated by Stephen Fry and the Jungle Book topping a top 13 list of Christmas car selections.

Gillian Anderson, who narrates a free, exclusive download of Mrs Zant and the Ghost by Wilkie Collins, says, I'm a huge fan of Audiobooks I find them entertaining and immersive so having a great story to share as a family on a long drive is genius. Sometimes when listening to music, youre very aware of time passing, with each song lasting three minutes whereas if youre caught up in the narrative of a story, you dont notice how long youve been listening, or driving, for that matter.

It was a Victorian tradition to share ghost stories on Christmas Eve and so I have chosen to read the chilling Mrs Zant and the Ghost by Wilkie Collins. Once I got my head around the Victorian phrasing, it became such a joy to read. The story really transports you to a fireside over a century ago.

Mrs Zant and the Ghost is available to download for free from 23 December 2015 - CLICK HERE - with the twelve other stories available now.

The star of The X-Files on why she agreed to take on a new case

On Jan. 24, Fox will revive The X-Files. Whose idea was that?
It was first brought up by a fan at New York Comic Con in 2013. My reaction was Over my dead body.

So what changed your mind?
It was that we were doing six [episodes] instead of 24. To me, somebody saying, Do you want to do The X-Files? meant signing my life over. It wasnt until the commitment was less than eight episodes that I could consider doing something, based on my other commitmentsincluding children!

Has playing Dana Scully made you more open to the idea of extraterrestrial life?
Ive always been a believer. Ive been a believer in many different realms of alternate reality, the human capacity to move out of different planes of reality. Its something that has been with me since I was a child.

Give to GOSH appeal & Merry Christmas
Posted at 8:37 AM (PST) on Sunday, December 20, 2015

Gillian Anderson is the latest celebrity to back The Independents Christmas appeal for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) with a special video message.

As part of our 12 Days of Christmas series, the 47-year-old actress, who became a household name playing Agent Dana Scully in the TV show X-Files, explains how donations can help fund crucial research projects at GOSH.

Last year GOSH committed to funding seven research projects around the country, dedicated to improving treatment and diagnoses for children with rare diseases, she said. By supporting the Give to GOSH appeal, you can help brighten the future of these children with life-threatening diseases.

With her Christmas message Anderson joins a growing list of famous faces who have endorsed the campaign as part of our series, including Jason Isaacs, Barbara Windsor and John Bishop.

David Beckham and Johnny Depp have also thrown their weight behind The Independent's record-breaking appeal, which has already topped one million pounds.

Books of the Year 2015
WHO READ WHAT
Wall Street Journal: December 11, 2015

We asked 50 of our friendsfrom Gillian Anderson to Nell Zinkto name their favorite books of 2015.

Gillian Anderson on 'This House of Grief'

Shamefully, the last time I read a book was the last time I wasnt either filming or writing myself, and so were going back now to Aprils Easter holiday break. I started with Lila, Marilynne Robinsons haunting tale told from the point of view of a young woman who has lived a life of poverty and transience and who ends up in a small town in Iowa.

Next came another jolly tale: Helen Garners This House of Grief. It grabbed me by the throat in the same way that the podcast series Serial did. Ms. Garner brilliantly and compassionately recounts the harrowing, real-life trial of Robert Farquharson, an Australian who was convicted of murder in 2007 after driving his car into a dam, killing his three young sons (though whether it was intentional remains a mystery).

And my third springtime read? Holy Cow by my very own David Duchovny. I dont know what to say about this book except that the humor is right up my alleymy daughter and I were in fits of giggles. Holy Cow is the tale of Elsie the cow, who comes to a realization about her fate on the farm and hits the road to India, where she will be better appreciated. In the end she teaches us a lesson or two about tolerance and getting along with other specieswhat more could you want in a book?

Ms. Anderson is an actress, activist and writer. Her most recent book is A Dream of Ice: Book 2 of The EarthEnd Saga.

Gillian Anderson of X-Files fame is coming to Utahs FanX 2016
By Michael McFall
The Salt Lake Tribune: 24 minutes ago

Believe it: Special Agent Dana Scully is coming to FanX 2016.

Gillian Anderson, best known for her role as the skeptical Scully of "The X-Files," is coming to the pop-culture convention in March. The organizers announced her booking Friday afternoon.

After playing Scully during the show's original nine-season run, plus two movies, Anderson returns for the miniseries revival on Fox this January. The run will have concluded by the time she's in Salt Lake City for the convention, scheduled for March 24-26 at the Salt Palace Convention Center.

Anderson also recently starred in NBC's "Hannibal" and the BBC crime drama "The Fall." She's also the co-author of the EarthEnd Saga book series.

Anderson joins a growing list of celebrity guests, including Norman Reedus and Chandler Riggs from "The Walking Dead"; Summer Glau and John Rhys-Davis; and "Doctor Who" alumni Peter Davidson and Sylvester McCoy.

As far as comics go, FanX's guestlist includes "Deadpool" creator Fabian Nicieza, "Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" author and artist Don Rosa, and "Bravest Warriors" writer Kate Leth.

Gillian will attend on Thursday (March 24), Friday (March 25), and until 1 pm on Saturday (March 26).
