Anderson: My kids confused by fame
The Press Association
Dec. 22, 2011

Gillian Anderson says her young children don't understand what she does for a living.

As well as an older daughter, the former X-Files star, who is appearing in a BBC adaptation of Great Expectations, has two sons, Felix, three, and Oscar, five.

She told The Graham Norton Show: "They have no idea what I do. We went to the cinema recently and there was a picture of me as a character from Johnny English Reborn on the box of popcorn and my five-year-old son said, 'Mum, that's you!' and he grabbed the box and started turning it around.

"When I asked him what he was doing he said, 'Looking for daddy.'"

Gillian said her children will not be watching her performance as spurned bride Miss Haversham in Great Expectations.

Asked about being cast as the ageing spinster, she said: "From what I have read, (Charles) Dickens's intention was that she was meant to be around 50 and I'm actually not that far off."

She added: "It's from Pip's perspective and I remember when I was eight or nine, everyone over 25 was ancient."
