A Summary of the 5th Annual On-Line Auction
"As for me, all I know is that I know nothing." -- Socrates
That quote pretty much about sums it up, so I guess this is gonna be a mighty short summary huh? Then again maybe not, remember I know nothing. Take for example this auction.
Each year many people ask me before we start, "So Cyn, how much do I think will be raised?" Sometimes I am even so brave as to go as far as saying a goal. I should stop doing that. After five years I still have yet to get it right. Just look at the results for this year. I set the goal at $100,000.00 then told everyone "Oh we will raise $100,000.00." Boy was I way off again we raised $145,812.16.
Most amazing!
I have no explanations to offer other then some type of higher power Devine intervention or something must have happened. On paper we should not have raised what we did, the math just does not compute! I kept saying "this is not happening," repeatedly but it did. I am still stunned! Most Amazing! HOLY COW! WE RAISED $145,812.16!!! Hot Digity-dog! Whoo Hoo! And there was much of rejoicing!
Ok so here's how we did it.
Well, we took 716 items, mostly Gillian Anderson stuff, and then auctioned it on the internet. Sounds simple enough. Well yeah, in theory ... but like all things (no connection to the X-Files episode) nothing is ever as simple as it appears, trust me. O.A. Battista once said of success, "If you want to be successful, it's just this simple: Know what you're doing. Love what you're doing. And believe in what you're doing."
To raise $145,812.16 it takes many people many hours of hard work and it is all volunteer. Hopefully those of us who worked on the auction are done doing the "we rock" victory dance around our computers so they can stand up and be recognized. If the noblest motive is the public good as Virgil says then all the people I have been blessed to work with over the past five years are truly the most noblest. Thank you all and enjoy the rest of this auction summary.
